Louis-Georges Tin is a Martinican-French academic, gay rights campaigner, and anti-racist activist. Tin is noted for initiating the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia [now marked in over 130 countries across the world] and co-founding the Representative Council of Black Associations (CRAN). In 2014, Tin was mandated by the former president of the African Union, Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, to bring structure to the African Diaspora.The State of African Diaspora (SOAD) was established following the African Union's recognition of the diaspora as the continent's ""sixth region,"" and it collaborates with the Pan-African Parliament to foster development and unity. Tin serves as SOAD's Prime Minister. Under Tin's leadership SOAD has supported restitution efforts in Benin, Congo and Kenya.

Peter Adewale Jegede est conservateur de musée et chercheur en patrimoine culturel au Nigéria. Il est actuellement conservateur consultant à la Bibliothèque présidentielle Olusegun Obasanjo (OOPL). Il poursuit également un doctorat en géoarchéologie à l'Université fédérale d'agriculture d'Abeokuta, au Nigéria, où il se spécialise dans l'évaluation environnementale et géochimique des activités humaines anciennes sur des sites archéologiques sélectionnés du sud-ouest du pays. Au cours des treize dernières années, il a œuvré dans les secteurs des arts, de la culture et du patrimoine au Nigéria, en tant que conservateur permanent, consultant de musée et collaborateur de recherche international. Il a notamment fait partie de l'équipe de conservation du Centre John Randle pour la culture et l'histoire yoruba à Lagos, où il a contribué à la préservation et à l'interprétation de la culture matérielle yoruba dans le cadre de l'exposition commandée par le président Muhammadu Buhari en 2022. Son travail de restitution au sein d'Open Restitution Africa (ORA) est fortement influencé par son expérience de conservateur et ses intérêts de recherche actuels, et s'inscrit pleinement dans son engagement envers le patrimoine culturel du Nigéria. Son objectif est de contribuer de manière significative à la compréhension de la manière dont les communautés interagissent avec leur patrimoine déplacé et de soutenir des approches responsables et éthiques en matière de restitution culturelle.

His work focuses on cultural heritage, decolonisation, and restitution, with a deep commitment to restoring Egypt’s looted belongings. He is an active member of various working groups and scientific committees in the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS).

Le Dr Omar Idtnaine est conservateur de musée et spécialiste du patrimoine. Il est actuellement directeur du Musée de la Reconstruction d'Agadir et conservateur du Musée d'Art d'Agadir. Auparavant, il a travaillé au Musée des Confluences de Marrakech et au Musée National du Tissage et du Tapis. Ses recherches portent sur les collections coloniales, le patrimoine amazigh, la conservation préventive et la médiation numérique dans les musées. Ses publications explorent la représentation des Gnaoua, les archives photographiques, l'inclusion multilingue et les expositions durables. Il enseigne également le patrimoine à l'Université Ibn Zohr et les pratiques professionnelles dans les arts, la culture et les industries créatives à l'Institut National des Beaux-Arts. Le Dr Idtnaine est membre du conseil d'administration d'ICOM Maroc.

Mohamed Ahmed (Ezz) is a researcher, student-activist and scholar of African Studies and International Relations, focusing on Colonial and Postcolonial Histories. He holds a BA in Sociology from University of Alexandria and is currently completing his MA through the African Studies Institute at the University of Leipzig. His work involves illuminating specific historical (dis)junctures to inform contemporary political discourse on accountability and transparency. He does this by reading histor(ies) through a critical and interdisciplinary perspective shaped by his engagement with human rights, injustices, and accountability. Ahmed has served as a policy researcher and communications coordinator for several Egytpian and international non-profit and development organizations. He currently leads the Critical African Studies Forum (CASF), collaboratively working with the faculty and Leipzig University to strengthen student participation.

Dr. Ngome Elvis Nkome is a lecturer in the Department of History and African Studies at the University of Buea in Cameroon and holds a PhD in Economic and Socio-Cultural History. His research interests cut across culture, history, colonial and post-colonial Africa, ethnographic research, museum studies and conflicts, security and peace studies. Besides teaching and academic research, he has also served as field consultant and research scientist for the Anglophone Regions of Cameroon under the project The “Blue Rider Post” and the Max von Stetten Collections from Cameroon during the German colonial era. He was also part of Open Restitution Africa's third cohort of case study researchers. His existing knowledge of history and heritage issues in post-colonial Africa, his engagement with the contemporary restitution landscape in Cameroon, as well as the networks he forged in Cameroon and Germany through the provenance research project, aided him in capturing the restitution journey of the Tangué in relation to the myriad contextualising circumstances that influenced its progression.

Dr. Mary Mbewe is a historian, academic and lecturer at Mulungushi University in Kabwe, Zambia. Prior to joining the university she served as the Keeper of History at the Moto Moto Museum in Mbala, Zambia for 10 years. Shortly after joining Open Restitution Africa's third cohort of case study researcher in 2023, Mbewe obtained her Doctorate of Philosophy in History from the University of the Western Cape, South Africa. Her thesis titled “From Chisungu to the Museum: A Historical Ethnography of the Images, Objects and Anthropological Texts of the Chisungu Female Initiation Ceremony in the Moto Moto Museum in Zambia, 1931 to 2016” critically reflected on the disjuncture between sacred cultural practices and Westernised collection and display standards and practices in colonial and postcolonial museums. She recenty took up a visiting professortship at the University of Cologne, where she will introduce students to critical museum and heritage studies, postcolonial studies, and archival methods in research on colonial collections.

"Dr Maximilian Felix Chami is a cultural heritage specialist based in the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies at the University of Dar es Salaam. He holds a PhD in Heritage Studies from BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, Germany. Dr Chami previously served as a senior research officer and secretary of the restitution committee at the National Museum of Tanzania (2021–2022), and as a Culture and World Heritage Officer at the UNESCO National Commission of the United Republic of Tanzania (2015–2021). In 2022, he was appointed as a Sensitive Provenance Research Fellow at the University of Göttingen, and in 2023, he joined Open Restitution Africa (ORA) as a researcher, contributing to efforts aimed at improving access to information concerning the restitution of African material culture and human remains. Dr Chami held a research fellowship with the Institute of Cultural Anthropology and European Ethnology at the University of Göttingen, where he focused on colonial heritage and history. His research interests include cultural heritage management, colonial heritage, restitution, and the repatriation of human remains and ethnographic collections."

"Alma Simba est une historienne et créatrice sonore dont le travail explore le patrimoine ancestral à travers la recherche universitaire et des approches non académiques. Elle s'intéresse à la manière dont les Africains noirs autochtones appréhendent l'histoire par le biais des traditions orales, de la mémoire et de l'imagination, avec une attention particulière portée au patrimoine tanzanien et aux récits oraux marqués par la violence et le déracinement. Sa pratique artistique puise dans les textures de la vie urbaine – enregistrements sonores, conversations et lectures de ses propres écrits – mêlant recherche historique, création sonore expérimentale et écriture créative. Ancrée dans les perspectives noires, féministes et postcoloniales, son œuvre rend l'histoire accessible au-delà des cercles universitaires. Elle a obtenu sa maîtrise en histoire (spécialisation en ethnohistoire et collections muséales) à l'Université de Dar es Salaam et a été assistante d'enseignement au Département d'histoire, d'archéologie et d'études du patrimoine. En 2022, elle a été sélectionnée pour participer au programme de bourses de recherche " Sensitive Provenance " de l'Université de Göttingen, en Allemagne. Cette expérience lui a permis de travailler en étroite collaboration avec les membres de la communauté d'Isanzu, des conseillers clés et des acteurs concernés, afin de cartographier et de documenter le patrimoine. sur une approche communautaire de la restitution des ancêtres humains d'Isanzu. Elle poursuit actuellement un doctorat à l'Université Justus Liebig de Giessen et dirige le projet “ ”Niko njiani…Nimefika" – Transit/Arrivée : Femmes et être dans les espaces urbains " au Centre mondial des méthodes spatiales pour la durabilité urbaine (GCSMUS)."
