Our Year in Review

As we bid farewell to 2023, we take a moment to celebrate a year of growth, engagement, and impactful research. Here are some highlights:

Team Growth and Expertise:
Our core team expanded by two invaluable members, welcoming a Senior Researcher and an Operations Associate. Additionally, we onboarded 2 talented cohorts of Case Study Researchers, enhancing our research capabilities.

Community Engagement:
Our community flourished across social media platforms. With +912 new followers, a reach exceeding 126k, and over 300k impressions. Our Restitution 101 series gained momentum on YouTube, amassing 1,445 views. Our newsletter community grew by 213 new sign-ups, with an impressive average open rate of 60.88%.

Research Milestones:
Our dedicated research team, comprising three talented women explored topics like Vigango in Kenya, Benin Bronzes in Nigeria, the legacy of Sara Baartman in South Africa, and others. Collaborating with six African academics, we developed robust research methodologies and conducted insightful workshops to analyse the collected data.

Projects and Footprint:
Our project, Restitution 101: A History of Theft, was the highlight of our year. The project’s physical presence reached various corners of the continent with live screenings in Ghana, South Africa, Uganda, Cameroon, Kenya, and Mali, fostering in-person discussions and connections.

As we step into 2024, we are excited about the journey ahead. Restitution 101 is still on the horizon, with the other 4 episodes in view, as well as other projects we can’t wait to announce. Stay tuned for more impactful projects, insightful research, and engagements that contribute to reshaping narratives and advocating for justice.
